September. The golden month.
I love September . It might herald the end of hope for a long hot summer but it shows the start of a golden Autumn.
The trees are turning golden with hints of burgundy.
The blackberries are starting to ripen.
Apple trees are about to be stripped bare.
But and there is a but, we may still get an “indian summer”!, especially now that the kids are back at school. It's bound to be the case, or at least we hope so.
So don’t go digging up your bedding plants yet even if they are getting untidy looking.
Instead tidy them up a bit , dead head the flowers and encourage further growth. And water regularly throughout September.
In the florist world we look forward to all the wonderful autumn flowers. Chinese lanterns, oak leaves. Pumpkins, Orange Roses, Big bright blooms. We get to experiment with all these fantastic blooms and berries. With twelve weddings to complete this month I'm really looking forward to all these little delights.
Its also the start of Tulips . Yes they are quite pricey to begin with but so nice to see. When I was a child you only say Tulips in February, now with Dutch growers investing in better technology etc. We can have any tulip from September to April.
Don’t forget to water and feed your indoor plants especially your Orchids. They need love and attention too.
Have a great September.
See you next month.
